I heard the QY100 at NAMM and was impressed. Could I somehow MIDI this unit to my X1 and use it as sort of the Yamaha version of the Ketron X4 module? Would this work or is there something better?

Tom,
Yes, you can midi the QY100 and the X1 together and trigger the patterns in the QY from the X1. Just remember this: To use both the X1 styles and the QY patterns together, you will have to change the midi out assingnments on the X1 becase the QY part channels are fixed and can't be changed. If you only want to hear the pattern on the QY, you can just transmit on the X1 on midi channel 1 and it will work.
To use the QY100 in this mode all you need to do is turn the fingered mode to "on" from the main page. If it says "off" it won't work.
The QY100 is a great little box for singers, guitar players, songwriters and also to be used as a module from another keyboard.
I stock and sell a lot of QY100's.

Tom, does your X1 need a tranfusion of fresh Yamaha blood?

Don,

At my age I need the transfusion. I love the X1 but to be honest I've never been all that impressed with the swing and big band styles (remember that I've played in a 16 piece big band for 26 years). I think that they are a little too busy sounding. I love the ballads, country, and latin styles of the X1 but for BB and Swing I'm using converted Technics and Korg styles more than anything else. So I guess yes, I'm not completely satisified and maybe some Yamaha styles would help. I feel that the X1 could also use a few more classic rock styles.

Does the QY-100 have Arabic drum kit like
the PSR-550, and can it also do quarter
note scales?
Thanks.

Tom,
I have big band styles from Solton Library .
Have you tried them ? I understand that you have converted styles, however the solton factory styles are very good . email me direct please . Accually if anyone wants these styles can email me . Take care ....
By the way ...I have some kick butt country hoedown styles ! dano
PS...George did a great job at explaining the QY100. For the same amount of money you could just purchase a PSR550. I know it's not as small as the qy100. Same $

The QY100 does not have arabic percussion and it does not do quarter tone tuning.
