I still have a pair of 3000s, both of which will not be replaced by the S-900. Don't get me wrong. The S-900 is a fantastic machine with loads of neat features. However, the upgrade is not sufficient for me to spring for a pair of 900s.

As for the rubber buttons, I think there is a reason behind them. I've personally seen lots of standard buttons destroyed by heavy-handed performers, guys that punch the buttons as if they were hitting them with a ballpean hammer. The switching mechanism beneath nearly every keyboard button is nothing more than a plastic bubble with a soft contact imbedded in the bubble material. Once that bubble is mashed flat with a fair degree of force, there's no way to repair it. Usually, the entire board must be replaced. The rubber buttons merely provide an added cushion of protection which will likely add to the longevity of the switch mechanism. Makes perfectly good sense to switch to a softer material.

Cheers,

Gary
