The only way you can save the transpose information is in a registration. Therefore, if you have saved a registration, that box that is marked Transpose must be checked. If not it will not save the information.

Now, as for using transpose--why not? I've always found it very easy to play any song in the key of "C" but there are only a few songs I can sing in "C". And, because the song is in my head--not on sheet music, it's not a problem. I know an enormous number of performers that use the transpose button, and most are singers. It just makes life a lot easier.
