When you use Windows Explorer to view the content of your SD Card and subsequently drag the content to your PC Desktop, make sure that the file you drag across, is, as Technicsplayer said, the Root folder. The folder is called 'PRIVATE' and contains several levels of sub-folder. This is the only folder which you should drag from and to the SD Cards.
