From articulated sounds to much larger drum libraries, much of the initial need for audio loops has evaporated. Computer or tablet virtual instruments have become almost impossible to discern any more from real audio loops (a far cry from a mere 20 years ago!).
IMHO, loops are great for players who never edit styles, or those with a limited chord knowledge, but my hope is that now better MIDI based alternatives exist, arrangers return to their roots.
