I just came across an awesome YouTube Tutorial by
NewJazz explaining the structure of these
7 Major Modes:
Ionian
Dorian
Phrygian
Lydian
Mixolydian
Aeolian
Locrian
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq2xt2D3e3EThe author shows how to visualize them using a circle and then proceeds to lay down the rules for the other Modes – Melodic Minor, Harmonic Minor, Harmonic Major, Diminished, Whole Tone and Augmented Modes.
He has links in the description to construct your own cardboard tool to figure out each family of Modes.
He also has a link to download a free Windows/Mac app that lets you visualize each Mode and Play back the sound.
