Either I missed it, or it wasn’t there, but it sounds to me like the second verse is a repeat, at least in chord structure, of the first. So I don’t see why the CS couldn’t have been used…

Remember, you don’t HAVE to preprogram the chord loop in advance, you can simply record and use it on the fly, and turn it off on the fly, mid verse, whenever. That’s kind of the whole point of a CS, unlike a sequence, you can drop in and out of it at will.

But there’s a level of improvisation that it allows you simply cannot do with normal chord following… if you record your basic head on your first iteration, you can then start up the CS and then play FAR more ‘outside’ even to the point of dissonance without the chord recognition freaking out.

Give that a try sometime. It’s an improviser’s dream!
