+1 The only problem with the Kodak z-8, you can't monitor the video, as there is no flip screen. But it's a great inexpensive small camera that records in 1080 and has a line in for true sound.

I also love the Canon Vixia line, compact, HD, mic/line in for direct audio recording, and a flip screen for viewing. The newest R800 sells for about $200.
