Something happened to me not too long ago that was similar to Deane’s experience. While playing for some seniors, I noticed a teenaged girl in the audience, and she was moving, grooving and having fun! I was a bit surprised as I was playing the typical Great American Songbook standards in a swing style. I was thinking how great it is this music still resonates with the youth, only to soon realize that she was not listening to me at all, but to her ear buds! So much for “ be so good that they can’t ignore you”
