Bernie - set up, and while you do your sound check - put your cursor on each point of the EQ adjustment - CLOSE YOUR EYES, and play a bit, making adjustments as your ears tell you. I always use this method to EQ a room. Your eyes will not help you "see" how it should sound.

Another concern in a room is how much reverb you add to your voices. I play a very live room all summer, and I actually turn the reverb OFF. Sounds much cleaner, and more detailed.
