In spite of my elitist, smart-assed attitude, I'll gladly admit I have played every song many, many times. Sold a three necked Fender steel (thru Carl's Music Center) to Asleep at the Wheel...there's was stolen...about 1968. They used it for years.
Had dinner with Ray Price at The Imperial House. He was staying there for an area performance, and I was working the lounge. He invited me to dinner.
Lots of people don't believe that during the "Welcome to my World" era (lat 60's). Ray price was bigger than Michael Bublea
(SP?). At lease he appealed to the equivalent of a top 40 FM audience.
Lots of country artists (Ferron Young, Marty Robbins...Jimmy Dean...even the Rock around the Clock guy) were crossover dudes.
Thanks for the memories.
Happy new year, all.
