Its worth a word of warning about leaving any electronic equipment switched off on standby but with power still on from the mains plug. These include TV's which many people always leave on standby even through the night whilst asleep.
I had a bad experience whilst staying in a hotel, the room next door had left their TV on standby and in the early hours it burst into flames. This caused think plastic smoke. I had to cover myself in a wet towel to escape.
