Oh I don't know about hearing everything outside the phones. I guess it depends on how quiet your studio is. All I know is I mixed through the 280s and the mix was dreadful. I remixed and balanced through the 650s and the results were astonishing.
don't be fooled I can definitely hear the music in my Vocal tracks recordings when using any "open pair of headphones",...especially with a good studio condenser recording Mic,..........mixing is a different story having both versions
closed for recording and open for mixing is the way to go..
