I ended up getting a pair of "used" Yamaha HS8's on Ebay that came new factory sealed. I got them for just $433 for a pair. They sound just fantastic. No subwoofer necessary - well unless you're doing House or Electronica.


The muddy midfield could be because of speaker placement, they are nearfield monitors, where speaker placement is quite important.. espescially for the mids..
