You can save a midifile as part of the registrations. This saves all of your settings, including pointing(or linking) to a midifile or MP3. I use this to play over a midifile, and the instruments, etc, are all set up. they can be saved in blocks, but not edited there.

You use "playlist" to create a list of midi and audio. files. This does not save your keyboard settings.
