There's a lot of truth in what you say - but USB 2.0 is definitely not obsolete. My brand new Windows 8 computer has 6 USB inputs, and only two are USB 3.0 - and those are only for data, not devices.

Given the tiny size of style files, registration files, and voice files, USB 2.0 is adequate. But if Yamaha starts allowing storage of detailed samples - like a 1gb concert grand, then USB 3.0 would be perfect.

I think that Yamaha puts a lot of R&D into the style arrangements and relatively little into the technology. They haven't done much with iPad integration either. They could have lyrics appear on the iPad, apps to control styles, voices, vocal harmonies.
