A lot of the time with a 'half-time' groove, the high hats or ride stays pretty much the same, but just the kick and snare patterns get thinned out (or moved).

It's not quite as difficult as it sounds...

In fact, a 'half-time' groove, for say 8 or 16 bars, might be a perfect use for one of those unused Intros...
