On most keyboards Manual Bass is exactly what it means; it allows you to play the bass manually without having to have the style running.

If you think about it, if it didn’t, then the chords in your style would change with each note you played.

I think you may be getting confused with On Bass (Or Bass to Lower etc.) which plays the style bass notes according to the lowest note played.
