OOTB I would agree, but then that is not what a workstation is about, it’s about taking the basic sounds and modifying them to an infinite degree to suit your taste and project, once you do this even the best of the T4 sounds pale in comparison.
A lot of users don’t want this though, and for them a T4 is a cracking board to have, as you can sound good (Or how the designer intended you to sound) relatively easily.
If you want flexibility however, and you don’t want to go the software route (Either separate or in a single unit) then a T4 and Kronos gives you a brilliant combination of sounds, styles and flexibility.
For me personally, if software VST wasn’t available, it would have to be a similar combination to the above, as there is currently no hardware arranger on the market that gives me the sound and flexibility I enjoy.
NOTE: I have been using computers and software since the early 80s, (Moving into VST in the late 90s) so I am used to the sound and flexibility it gives me, and just could not go back to the limitations of just hardware. Fortunately my Abacus allows me to have both, and has the bonus of being perfectly acceptable in a lounge, rather than stuck in the office or a dedicated music room.
One thing a would like to repeat though, is that for most users an arranger will be all that they need, (No matter what the make) it’s just that I’m not your typical arranger player, so I have a different outlook on what’s out there.
Enjoy whatever you play
