I would never ship an expensive instrument in a case that costs less than $300 or $400 - never saw one yet that was roadworthy for my level of care for less. Even so ... the airfare is probably steep too.
That said Dave, what would 'you' recommend Chony do in this situation then?
IMO the safest honest affordable way would be for Chony to ship his Tyros 4 in the original Tyros 4 box, including the original packing material or equivalent. Even with insurance, it's got to be a lot less than $500. I wouldn't feel in good conscience to purchase one online or at a local music store, to simply use it for the weekend and return it. Not only do I find that over the edge of shady, but shipping cost and damage risk is the same as if you'd simply shipped the one unit you already own. And of course, I'm certain, even with the restocking fee charge, both resident SZ keyboard dealers Frank Ventresca & George Kaye wouldn't be pleased if one of their customers pulled that stunt.
