I have come across those kind of contacts before on remote controls (carbon contacts inside silicone pads) and I am sure that this is the problem.

I'm sorry to have to ask again but could you please let me know how I get to the silicone strips on the X1 please?

When I open the X1, I can see the keys pushing down on the silicone pads, but how do I access and remove the strips?
