A great Leslie sim with a passable organ put through it is no better, IMO, than a great great organ put through a passable Leslie sim.
They BOTH have to be great for the full Monty... and yes, just like piano, you have to PLAY it like an organ for it to sound like an organ.
Trouble seems to be, especially over in Europe, the prevalent organ sound is that awful reverb drenched Lowery or Wersi type sound

Over here in the US, we tend to lean more towards those great gospel greats and jazz greats (and maybe some great rock organists like Benmont Tench), and most of the European organ sounds leave us cold...
But as arrangers are geared towards European players, we often don't get anything we can use without cringing
