Pure science here...

My wife went shopping in a "gadget" shop for a friend's birthday and bought this for us:

It is a rubber drum pad that can be rolled up, much like the roll up piano that was shown here not a long time ago.

Here is a short clip of her "playing" this little thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEw5LLUGwWw

Though not velocity sensitive, I was amazed to realise this thing transmits MIDI. In the "Drivers" section it actually refers you to the Midi-Yoke site, so you can install it.

It may have sounds of its own, never bothered to find out, just fired up Hypersonic and the GM drum kit. Sounds as good as your sound source.

Yoy can also fire up a "learning" mode, has different "kits" and it has some kind of "play along" function.

Don't think it will last for long, but definitely got my attention and it is a fun thing.

Price was 35 Euros, more like 20-30 US dollars. And it even includes the "sticks"
.
Isn't amazing what technology can do? Can you imagine what the price would be for a thing like that 10 years ago?
