Can you find out something for me, Frank..? My ZoomH2 has no input attenuation on the line ins, only on the mike ins. Will the H4n DEFINITELY allow input attenuation on all inputs simultaneously? And is it independent?
The scenario would be a set of line ins from the board (which you can't adjust for example) and mike ins from a pair out front. I would need to independently set gain on both inputs to get a good balance...
Now, here's the kicker... although it SEEMS like you can adjust the 'record level' on an H2, what happens to adjust the 'gain' is actually a digital reduction of the signal AFTER the A/D converter. So, in effect, if your line input is clipped, turning down the 'record level' only results in a lower level clipped signal, not an unclipped lower level signal.
If the H4n has changed the way that line level signals are attenuated (to pre-A/D converter), I will change from my H2. But I really need to know this for sure before I commit.
Thanks....
