It was forunate that you called for a question and found out.

1-2 years ago, I made a purchase using my credit card, a sizable amount (~$4.000).

Someone from the bank called me some days later, stated his name and position and requested to verify that it was actually me who purchased the goods.

I told him that for that I would have to call him back myself. He was AMAZED that he actually found an individual who did not simply give him the info right away. He went as fas as to CONGRATULATE me on that, and gave me all the info I needed.

I checked the tel numbers online on the bank's site, and only then called back. He was very careful to ask only what was necessary to verify that I was the rightful owner, and all was fine, but the thing that stuck my mind was that the guy was so genuinely surprised that I asked to call back. Nobody ever bothered.

So simple things can lead to loss of money.
Don't believe what you hear, and only believe half of what you see.
