Regretably, Jimmy McKinny, also known as JIMSAX on the zone, passed away this evening while performing at a Baltimore area niteclub. Jimmy was playing his sax and suddenly collapsed and died in the middle of a song. He was 70 years old, a good friend, and I, along with many of his friends, will miss him dearly. Jim was inducted into the Musician's Hall Of Fame just two years ago and I had the privelage of attending his induction.

This is very sad. I didn't know Jim, but as with Tim Russert, the reality of sudden, unexpected death, is eerily uncomfortable for those in our age group. To paraphrase John Donne, 'each (musician's) death diminishes me, and I am the lesser for it'. To the extent that anything good can come out of such a tragedy, it does nudge us towards reviewing our priorities. RIP.

PS: Perhaps this could be put on a separate post so that more people will be aware of it.
