I'll give another 'thumbs up' for Cockos REAPER. I have everything double-plugged into both Reaper (via Alesis I/O 26) and my DPS24. Although the DPS probably sounds a tad better (better clocks, converters, pre's, etc.), the speed and convenience of Reaper (and the computer) is making me slowly lean in the direction of the computer. If you take the time to learn REAPER in-depth, it's hard to beat for the price.
