Well it definately sounds like some sort of display problem if all the sounds and controls are working when the display fails start up. I'm just guessing but being a display problem and not some sort of system problem I'd think it shouldn't be too costly to have repaired. Isn't it under warranty anymore? You'll need to have it looked at by a Roland approved technician. If you don't already know of one you may have to get it repaired through a local Roland dealer.

And at least it is a repeatable problem which will make tracing it down easy.

If you are prepared to open the case yourself you could check that connections to the display are firmly plugged in. But if it is still under warranty then don't open it and risk voiding the warranty and just send it in to be looked at.
