I think I had this sound first...

Sweetwater got Take 5 to do a whole sample disk of these types of sounds for the Kurzweil 2500 and K2000 over ten years ago (or more!). The programming had some of the K's top programmers (I think Daniel Fisher was involved - a K genius) and they were able to do some incredible tricks with the K's extensive voice control.

The only problem with it was that it was TOO recognizable! You had to be careful to not expose the voices too much, or it was 'Oh, you got Take 5 to play on your CD?! So I learned to not expose them quite as much as the 'Summertime' example. For me, it's just a little too gimmicky by itself, but if you layer it with a jazz guitar or piano, or put it up behind some brass, it can add a nice semi-randomly changing timbre to the sound, and give it some extra dimension.

I'll often use it 'scatting' over the top of it myself (plus the layer) to avoid the 'machine' aspects of it. Give that a try, Fran, it's a lot of fun!
