As far as a digital audio recording goes, I recommend you check out Cool Edit Pro2:

It has more comprehensive audio editing capabilities than even Sonar (which I also own). Cool Edit Pro2 also has awesome loop support (great for dance grooves), and supports multi track recording as well (with up to 128 tracks of audio playback). Soundforge's multi-track recording capabilities is very limited compared to Cool Edit Pro2. Cool Edit Pro2 also supports midi editing, though not as comprehensive as Sonar offers. I just recently switched form SoundForge & Sonar to Cool Edit Pro2 and (so far) find it very powerful & easier to use than the others.

Keyboard Magazine reviewd Cool Edit Pro2 in their August 2002 issue and gave it a thumbs up!
