The BLOCK registrations are a group of registers on board the keyboard (in memory) at any given time (eg 198 for X-series). You can access/select these using the REGISTRATION button on the keyboard. The advantage here is you do have quick access to your settings (sounds, styles, keyboard layout etc).
The SINGLE registrations are individual registers that reside on DISK (FD/HD) rather than in memory. You can have fixed number of these per folder(HD)/FD. Because these have to be read/loaded from disk, a little more 'access' time is required.
In the SD_ & XD_ series, the BLOCK registration feature is greatly enhanced via use of the HD. Eg. If you assign a REGISTRATION with a name (Test), and you have a style that resides in the HD style folder (test.pat) and this style requires some sounds you have which reside in the sound folder also called (test.snd/test.wav/test.ini), upon selecting this RESISTER, all associated files with the same name as the registration will be called up. When using SINGLE registers, you can also access text and midifiles that have the same name as the register.
With the X-series, the files that are managed by the BLOCK Registeration are those that reside in memory.

Hope this helps.

AJ,

When you say 'upon selecting this RESISTER, all associated files with the same name as the registration will be called up' what will start to play once the 'start' button is pressed ? Is it the sytle and settings for the registration or the midifile with the same name?

Thanks !
