As Graham says, recording directly from the outputs to the sound card is the best way. That way you get the actual sounds of the keyboard.
If you record midi files, then you will hear the sounds of whatever sound source you use to play them back on.
However, I can record midi songs on the 2000 and they play back just fine on any General Midi player or program. I would think the 1000 would be the same.
