John ir right...an electric guitar plugged straight into a mixing board, even one with effects, usually gets disappointing results. An acoustic with a built in pre-amp is often acceptable.
For an electric, either come out of the line out of a small guitar amplifier, or use a device like a guitar Sans Amp. I even use a Sans Amp preamp on jobs, so I can eliminate carrying another piece of equipment. It's not ideal, but when you get old, you make compromises.
For recording, a line out or pre-amp is a must.
