Sunny you might aloso find the PSR 3000 will not read certain USB memory drives.

My old PSR 3000 would not read a sony USB stick at all. I tried formatting it like Gary has explained but it wouldnt do this trick.

then I tried some cheapo' 10 dollar memory stick and that worked fine.

It CAN depend on the brand...
