These may be rhetorical questions but they have real answers. You can write off 100% of the cost of new keyboards on your taxes. Pros do this anyway, but if you aren't making money as a pro musician, that's ok... claim a little income on a Schedule C and write off your music expenses as a loss. Keep your instruments in prime condition so they are easy to sell when you want to upgrade. Don't claim your equipment sales, just your purchases. I've seen people essentially buy new gear every year at no cost this way. Now you know why I sign in under a psuedo name.
