For Pretty Woman I agree that a strong 8 beat shuld be ok, although there might be a problem in that Pretty Woman has some 2/4 bars in it (if my memory serves correctly).

Brown Eyed Girl I play lighter, almost as a rhumba, which I think suits it quite well.
