Plasma have about a good 3 year life, then they lose their color which means their gas is being burned off, plus a very easy brun in possibility if an image is on the TV too long,

LCD's better life span but do not have the vibrance or fast action ability of a plasma, give them a year or two for them to catch up.

Currently the best bet is DLP technology
