As long as man lives there will be war. The longest period of uninterrupted world peace was the Pax Romana (Roman Peace). During this era, no country waged war against another country for 1000 years. The power of Rome was so overwhelming that no country dared to revolt or put soldiers in the field. It is said that when Rome was strong, her citizens could travel the world in safety, and that when Rome was weak, bandits preyed on the innocent on every street corner.
If we intend to have peace, then we must also have great strength. It is good for a nation to have friends but it is better to be feared. It's time to talk softy and carry a big stick. Incidentally, the Book of Revelation talks about another 1000 years of peace to happen sometime in the future. During that time, Christ is to rule that nations with an iron fist -- such is the nature of man.
Sorry Uncle Dave but world peace is simply "pie in the sky" until the nature of mankind undergoes a drastic change.
