Your O1/W will read format 0 and 1 with no problems at all. So I don't think that is your problem

When you turn on your synth does it say SMF on the title screen. Some of the frist 01/W synth did not display this and would not load Midifiles. If your synth does not you can get a chip installed that will sort you out. And away you go.
