It's hard for me to comment because I don't know what's "under the hood" on your computer, but I have run all of these on my very modest machine with none of the problems that you are having.. I know N track has a forum specifically designed to answer problems concerning their software, and this is the first time that I've seen that anyone has voiced a problem with cool edit. A few years ago I ran both programs on my old PII 300 mhz with no problems, but it did take a little tweeking with N track.
