If it's a passive pedal, there shouldn't be any risk, right? That just sounds like needless worry...voltages and such. It's an audio connection that is paired with another audio connection. Should be the same as plugging two instuments into two jacks in an amp. We did that for YEARS.
I'm no electriction, but I would not worry about doing that hookup.
