An old man and a boy were leading a donkey to the market. They met a group of travelers. The group said “How foolish to both walk when they had a donkey to ride”
So the old man put the boy on the donkey and went on their way.
Soon they met another group of travelers who said “How terrible that the boy should ride when the poor old man walked”
So the boy got off and the old man rode the donkey.
Soon they met another group of travelers who said “What a fine donkey. Why don’t you both ride?”
So they both road the donkey.
Soon they met still another group of travelers who said “How awful. They should be carrying that poor donkey."
So they did.
Soon they came to a bridge over a river. While crossing the bridge they lost their footing on the slippery bridge and the donkey went into the river and was lost in the deep water.

The moral is when you try to please everybody you will loose your ass.
