Danny - You will just need to keep the pressure on Ketron to introduce this improvement to the X1 - The XD range already have this feature so they know how to achieve this. You can't read the .KAR file direct but the XD will convert and then allow you to save as an SMF.
The other good thing is that you can save a registration with the same name as the songfile and then when you load that registration it will automatically load the midifile (or .txt file if you just want the words but not the mididata). If you are switching from pure arranger playing to accompanying an SMF this is invaluable as it saves time setting up all the parameters such as full keyboard name and selected voices etc.
I believe that Ketron listen to their customers, look at the terrific upgrade the SD1 had and the X1 was sold with the promise that it is upgradeable.
Happy New Year (belatedly) from the UK to all.
