Thanks AJ.. I used to own the PSR-540 and the 540 and 550 are essentially the same board.. I highly doubt there were any changes with the midi set up between the two boards, so maybe the 540 idea will work. I don't understand whey Yamaha won't make an update for the 550? What point is it to add the XG soundset to the keyboard, but not have an update for the software so users can use the XG set to it's potential.. Very dumb if you ask me.. Yamaha seems to only care about supporting their upper end models.. This is really stupid too.. I bet the EZ series has better support with XG than the 550.....
