Why only yamaha styles are on midi format?

If midi is better as a universally standard format, if "midi" styles may be modified or edited easily with cakewalk or others programas, so ....
Why Roland, Technics, etc. styles are not in midi format, and they have its own format???

Perhaps these formats are better than Yamaha midi format?

Perhaps the reason is to difficult the use of its styles for other manufacturers?
