Back around 1980 I happened to be in Chicago
during a jazz festival ... Gerry Mulligan and his big band were appearing at the hotel I was staying at ... I paid FIVE BUCKS to hear them perform and the room was only half full ... the next night I walked into a club and The Jimmy Smith Trio was playing .. NO COVER CHARGE !!! It was GREAT !!!
