Glad to hear you're enjoying the XP. Bear with the OS. It'll seem odd at first, but it will all come together. Losing edits when changing voices ect isn't uncommon (especially for synths from that date) Many of them did this. Don't hesitate to fill up those lovely user slots with custom voices (that's what they're there for) When I first got mine I was the same way

Beauty of it is you lose no memory for recording when filling up the user voices. There are 60,000 notes allocated just for the sequencer alone

You'll grow to love the "non stop loop recording" Did you get the demo disks? If so try out some of the RPS demos. They're pretty good. The board is built like a tank compared to some synths today. Funny you mention the "sharpie" for touch ups. I had a friend who owned the XP-80. He gigged with it daily, and his case got pretty scuffed up. He brought it to me one evening for a good cleaning, and I did the same thing with a sharpie. Hope all goes well with your new synth. It's an excellent board, and down the line when you get some extra dough buy a few expansion boards. That's where the real power is in that synth.
Best Regards,
Squeak
