Jamey Ambersold's 'minus one' CD's were standard issue to us jazz students back in the late 80's. They certainly were a godsend to me. I fondly remember working thru: Volumes 1-5 and still recall the cool 'signature artwork' on the book covers carried around campus by fellow music students:

Vol. 1 - How to Play Jazz & Improvise

Vol. 2 - Nothing But The Blues

Vol. 3 - The II-V7-I Progression

Vol. 4 - Movin' On

Vol.5 - Time To Play Music

Interestingly enough, soon after that period, 'Band in a Box' software was introduced, which became strong competition to Ambersold's minus one CD's because it offers 'user customibility'.
