Keep a 25 dollar old cassette recorder in your studio or near where you usually play. I can't tell you how many times one of these has been so helpful in me retaining ideas. Just a simple regular cassette recorder with the built in mic from radio shack for about 25 bucks will do.

I keep mine loaded with a tape. Then days later I can play it back, then record it or sequence it properly.
