I suppose it depends on what you use the laptop for. I use an old 386 laptop running Win 3.1 just to send sysex to the PSR-740 via the serial port and 'to host' connector. This enables m e to get all the effects that can't be got via the keyboard. After all, there's effectively an MU100 sitting in the keyboard (16 parts only though) so I might as well get my money's worth. Also use a Sony 100W amp and homebrew speakers. The amp is very light as it uses a pulse power supply and the speakers are bookshelf size. All very portable.
